HoneyBee was one of our very dearest horses—a beautiful, chestnut appendix mare. She was a true red-head with the perfect mix of sassy fire and kind-hearted warmth. She died peacefully at the age of 27, having touched the lives of many riders. HoneyBee came out of retirement to join the Whispering Smith family in 2006. She was an amazing horse who learned lead changes and dressage while in her twenties—surprising many with her grace and athleticism. She was a fantastic lesson horse who would gently and willingly cart around children and beginner riders, but she was also a favorite of experienced riders who loved speed! From the trail, to the show ring, to the cross-country course and trail trials, HoneyBee was willing to try it all. She taught us how to embrace life to the fullest. We are grateful that her last day included a beautiful ride, turnout with Diego, and grain with extra carrots. Although we will miss her nicker down the barn aisle, her spirit will live on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
